So, here’s a proper post with some pictures, and most importantly, some news of what’s going on up north.
There’ll be plenty of photos for you to admire. For those of you in the Facebook know, there are many more on my profile page. You’ve probably seen all of these before but, I’m going to post them here anyway - hopefully with a bit of explanation as well.
So, where do I live? You’ve hopefully all looked at the video of my room, but where is the room? It’s here:
House A, St. Lawrence Court, Halifax College
There’s 9 of us sharing. There should be ten of us, but there is an empty room opposite me on the top floor. You can see my window at the top left of the house. There are twenty six houses in St. Lawrence Court, named A to Z. Halifax is made up of six courts, I think, but all the others are rubbish so I don’t know the names of them.
York’s campus can look quite nice, depending on whether or not it is dark. It’s much better at night. But, for the purpose of clarity, I’ve taken these photos during the day, just for you. Now isn’t that nice?
This is central hall. The wonderful looking building where I get to graduate. Great isn’t it?
Some of the campus is quite picturesque. Such as this view over by Derwent College:
You can see Heslington Hall off in the distance.
Here is Heslington Hall with some random sculpted tree.
Ah, the most important building on campus – The Physics Tower (of Power)! We have nearly all of our lectures in there. Our labs are also in there, second floor I think.
Only one more of campus. Hope you’re not bored yet.
This is a view towards the Biology (not as good as Physics) building across the lake. This is a rare view of campus, as there is no concrete.
So, there was campus.
Moving on, the campus is about a ten minute bus ride from the town centre. The town is quite small, but big enough to have all the main shops, and a Games Workshop. Oh dear, oh dear. This photo was taken down by the River Ouse.
It’s not quite as big as the Thames, but it’s better than a canal.
I’m rather happy at the severe lack of chavs up here compared with home. There are still obviously people up for a laugh, as this photo shows:
Washing-up liquid in the fountain - well worth it.
And finally of town, the city’s most famous building, The Minster:
This place is massive. We haven’t been inside yet, because they charge you a fiver.
Oh, almost forgot. This is the remains of the castle in York. It’s called Clifford’s Tower and looks much better when lit up at night:
At the end of week 2, 21st October, we had FRESH – basically the fresher’s ball, but not as formal. We all dressed up kind of smart:
In the above photo you have Ben in the beige coat. He lives in house E. At the back are Catherine and James, both of whom live with me, and some chap in a hat.
This was at Fresh just before the Vengaboys came on stage. They were so bad at miming it was unbelievable.
A couple of weeks ago was the Pirates vs Ninjas night at JJ’s, the bar in Halifax.
A wonderful group photo, with the Burgundy Ninja appearing at the back. Almost everybody else were boring pirates. I decided to be different.
Ah, the “not at all intoxicated by alcohol" Burgundy Ninja. This was at a local park, on one of the stupid little horses on a spring. I was evidently too big for it.
Ah, Halloween. Everybody dressed up. Nobody dressed up as much as Ben:
Bonfire night was a bit of a disaster really. We attempted to find a fireworks display, and failed miserably. This then led to us going to the pub and playing with…
Sparklers! I love the really long shutter motion of my camera.
This is me and Laura at “Toff’s”, one of the nightclubs in town. She’s form house E, along with Ben and a few other who we are all really good friends with. Laura and James have a bit of a thing going on, so I’m surprised he’s not in the photo as well.
This was taken on Thursday night at another nightclub called Gallery.
It’s Nick and Claire who, is on my course but lives on Nick’s corridor.
I don’t know why, but it seems the north have better sunsets than us:
